Little Miss Betty Crocker

Alyssa is finally getting interested in "helping" mommy do things. I bravely decided to let her help me cook today. She already has her little apron with her name on it "thanks to cousin AnnaCarroll". She was so excited. I let her actually pour in the ingredients. And then she mostly played in the water Until it was time to clean up of course.

December

I can't believe that it has been so long since my last post. This month is flying by.

This week has been a busy week though. On Wednesday we had to spend the day out at Scottish Rite. I was blessed to be able to make both of her appointments on the same day. But it does make for a long one. Her first appointment was with the orthopedics. She got her cast off. She is so excited about it. She stops everyone saying, "Look I got my cast off!" But boy~ her arm stunk so bad. Besides sweat and food she managed to stuff play-doh down the cast as well. But luckily the room was equipped with cleanser and lotion. They must get that all of the time. After that appointment we had out yearly appointment with the genetics counselor, Kim Uhas. We sat there for two and a half hours waiting. Alyssa rode in the wagon, colored, watched TV and made some new friends. I met a mother who has to drive from South Carolina for her appointments. I feel so thankful that we have this hospital in our area and no longer complained of the drive and the $1.00 toll. But after waiting for that long Alyssa was no longer willing to participate in the visit. After about 10 minutes into the visit with Ms. Uhas she said, "So Alyssa while you were getting your cast off today did you go ahead and pick the color for the next one?" She did mention that the material her bones looked alittle stronger this time, but she still would never change her diagnosis. but maybe this means that one day she can dance or play some kind of sport.
Trent had a full week this week. Besides making gingerbread houses and other Christmas goodies he was able to wear his pj's to school for "Polar Express Day". It took me a full week to convince him to wear them but he did. He said that it was embarrassing and that the big kids would make fun of him. I had to take him to school and we watched the other 1st and 2nd graders go into the school in theirs before he would get out of the car.
We went to see Santa last night I will post the pictures soon.

I'm Sorry

I have been a terrible Blogger since I started my new position at Work. I just can't find the time to type. I was off last week and didn't do a darn thing. I did adventure out to the movies with the kids. "Happy Feet". It was good. Alyssa did real well. I was surprised. I hope everyone had a Great Thanksgiving.
I did go out on our Major Shopping Spree on Friday. We decided to go to the Macon Mall this year. Just for a different experience. I woke up at 2:30 am to meet my sister and mom. Meg went too and my sister's boy friend Trey. (We needed someone to run to the car throughout the day) I wanted to go to Best Buy first because they opened at 5:00am. There was already 200 or more people on line when we got there. And they were only letting 25 people on the store at a time. What type of crap is that?? It would take the rest of the morning just to get in the door. So we headed to the mall. The Macon Mall wasn't crowded at all. It was great. We were even interviewed for the Macon Telegraph. Here's the atricle.....

At Macon Mall, a group of women sat inside flipping through coupons, waiting for one of the women's boyfriend to pick up their loot."We do this every year," said Deanna Griner, 33.
She arrived at the mall with her mother, sister and cousin, traveling to Macon from Henry County. They usually shop at The Mall at Stonecrest in Conyers but decided to shopin Macon this year for more and better shops, in particular Bombay Company, the Disney Store and KB Toys."The night before, on Thanksgiving, you look in the paper," Griner said.
Her sister, Lisa Barfield, 30, added: "Depending on who has the bestdoor-busters, that depends on where you go."But there is one rule: no looking at the advertisements until after dinner."I might have peeked a little," Griner admitted.
I just love how they added our ages in there....
We had a great time. There were no rude people at all. I couldn't believe it. And the workers were very helpful this year. Not like last year.
Here is a cute viedo from Thanksgiving...... Notice how Dylan finally covers his ears.....

Which color would you like, Alyssa?

That was the question of the week. Alyssa picked pink. (Its more like fushia) For what, you are wondering...........

That would be the color of her new cast. She broke her wrist Wednesday night. Times like these I have to look on the bright side.... Last year she had 5 different cast with 6 broken bones. (Red, White, Purple, Tan and Pink) So this year overall has been a good year. I tried to talk her into a darker color like red. That way I could at least try to camouflaged it in the holiday pictures.

She likes to display her cast around the holidays. This will be her first Thanksgiving in one. The others where during Christmas, Easter and Mother's Day. I feel bad that in all of her pictures she has one on.

I think I am jinxed when it comes to pictures. Everytime I make an appointment to have the kids pictures taken together something happens. Last month Alyssa fell at Trent's ballgame~ remember...... This sort of thing has been going on since Trent was little. That's why most of the time I just show up and hope that they aren't crowded. Here she is three and I only have a couple of studio pictures of her.. Maybe I should just take it with the cast??

Time Gone BY....

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I went to New York for a long weekend. It was wonderful. We all had a great trip. I lived there when I was little for 6 months and hated every minute of it. But I love it now. We shopped and shopped and ate and ate. I did get my picture made with Matt Lauer. (haha) He is Hot!!!

Some Dreams Do Come True!!
Here is a great one all us sitting in Central Perk. The coffee shop on Friends.

The Wedding Singer

So last weekend I sang at a friend's wedding. It was really nice. It was outside so we froze. This was Trent and my "date night." Brett was out of town so he told Trent that he had to be the "man" of the house. Trent really took this seriously. He was so cute. After about an hour at the reception I finally got him to dance with me. I had to of course wheel and deal with him, but he finally got out there. I told him that I would let him watch TV "all night long." He thought that that was a huge deal. In my mind I knew that he would fall asleep on the way home anyway. He didn't. He attempted to stay up only to fall asleep after a short while. I left the TV on all night though just in case he woke up. The next morning I asked him if he stayed up all night. He said, "Yes I did!" I'd watch TV then nap then watch TV then nap. My grandma always says "I'm not asleep,. I'm just resting my eyes." Yeah Right!
Pictures coming soon......

Random Stuff.

First of all........
I decided to potty train Alyssa. Just quit puting pull ups on her except for at night. In two days she has only had one accident. That's Awesome!!! She is even poo pooing in the potty. So far so good. That will save us about $50 a month on pull ups. Hooray!!!!

Over the weekend I took the kids to a local church for the Trunk or Treat festival. Trent is a pirate this year and Alyssa is a Carebear. I know its hard to believe but I didn't take my camera. There was this little boy dressed like Scooby Doo, Poor Alyssa thought that it was really him. I had to explain that just like you aren't a real Carebear, he really isn't Scooby Doo. She finally understood.

It has really gotten cold here. Just in time for the race. I have to work all weekend freezing my tail off. I just hope it doesn't rain too. But I love the extra money it brings for Christmas. Can you believe that it is just around the corner? I know that I ranted about this last year, but I hate the fact that its not even Halloween and the Christmas decorations are already up in the stores. ONE HOLIDAY AT A TIME PEOPLE!!!! It goes Halloween, Thanksgiving then Christmas.

This fantasy football thing sucks. I have only won 1 game. Thanks to Keith. He is the lucky one that I beat. But I must say that I am numero uno inthe stockcar challenge. That just tears the guys up. Hopefully I can hang on to the lead for a couple of more weeks. I can't wait for Nascar to be over. Maybe I can get my Sundays back? Well not all the way because of Football but some time.

I am ready for a vacation!! Oh thats right. I get one in a couple of weeks. Three of my friends and I are going to New York. I am soooo excited. We are trying to get into Regis and Kelly. Maybe we will get lucky and it will be Christmas time on the show with a lot of give a ways. Cool, huh? Start Spreading the News........ For those of you thinking, "Poor Brett, that Lisa leaves him all the time," (I know who you are) believe me Brett gets time away. We call it "Going to the store." He sneaks off on weekends and during the week to play with his cousin down the street. So don't feel sorry for him. I can't help it that he doesn't like to fly anywhere. Who says that I have to stay home? We have made an agreement. I think he can handle two nights with the kids. ALL AlONE. Don't you????

Weekend of Festivals

This weekend we were so busy. I just love this time of year! On Friday night we went to a local Corn Maze. Eventhough they kids where too young for the maze they had several other things for them to do.

Alyssa loved to feed the animals. Because of Trent's allergies he opted not to touch them.

The Cow train was fun.

The kids had so much fun!!!!
On Saturday Alyssa and I met Camryn and her mommy for a morning of crafts and other fun activities.

Camryn and Alyssa making a puppet.

Eating hotdogs and listening to stories.

Balance beam time.
That evening we met Nanny, Papa, Grandmommy, Granddaddy and Bryce down at the Perry Fair. I really saw how Trent has grown up. He wanted to ride the big rides. I rode one ride with Alyssa and Brett rode a ride with Trent and Bryce. (I think we ate more than anything.)

Happy Birthday to TRENT

Trent is 7 today. I can't beleive it. We had a skate party for him last weekend. He was so excitied . We had a great turn out. Here are some pictures. Brett and I even got out there to skate but was shown up by the twirling, backwards skating Cousin Keith. Here are just a few of the pictures from the party.

Today I ate lunch with him at school and brought cupcakes. I couldn't beleive what a good class his teacher has. I didn't come home with a headache like I did last year.

Not the First....Not the Last

We'll this weekend started out with a bang!
On the way home Friday after I picked Alyssa up from school I decided to get gas. I always stop at the Texaco infront of her school. (They are always the cheapest gas in town) As I was pumping gas tons of US Marshalls and policeman storm the place. It scared me half to death. I wasn't sure what to do....Stay, go. Alyssa was in the back seat "reading" her book. They handcuffed this guy and slammed him up against the wall. It was really cool. Turns out it was the guy they had been looking for in Ala. who shot the cop. I wonder if there was a reward???
Then later that night..........
We visited the Emergency Room. It was Alyssa. She fell and split her head open. We were at Trent's game and normally she says in the stroller the ENTIRE time. But I was gracious to let her out alittle. She tripped over her stroller and hit her head on the cement manhole that was sticking out of the ground. At first I thought that she probably just had some scrapes on her face but no..... Her cut was so deep. There was blood everywhere. All over her and all over me. But we all know Alyssa, she cried for only a minute then whined because she didn't want to leave the game. Brett stayed with Trent and mom and I went off to the hospital. It wasn't the cut that I was worried about. I was afraid that with Alyssa's condition she had fractured or cracked something in her face or even her hands. They opted not to stitch her but to glue her forehead instead. There was no way that she would sit still to be stitched anyway. They did some x-rays and didn't see any fractures. Luckily we go to Scottish Rite on Monday for full body x-rays anyway so I wasn't too concerned. Scottish Rite's equipment is much better and high tech than Henry Medical's. We finally got home about 1:00 am. I had to help the nurse hold her down so the doctor could glue her. She DID NOT like that. She screamed and screamed. Not because it hurt, but because she was confined. I told her, "Alyssa, you have got to be still." After it was over I picked her up and she said, "Momma don't be mad at me." So pitiful. Not once did she complain about it hurting. She was just upset that she had gotten blood all over her favorite sweater.
Luckily I can hide it with her bangs.

  • Topical Skin Adhesive (Glue) - DERMABOND adhesive
  • Works like glue to hold edges of skin together
  • Areas do not have to be kept dry during healing
  • Bandages are often not required
  • Forms a strong, flexible bond fast
  • The adhesive "sheds" from the skin naturally as the wound heals
  • No stitches to remove
  • rotects wound from most common infection-causing bacteria, including certain staph, pseudomonas and e.coli

A high-tech "wound glue" is the latest advance in treating small cuts and contusions. The stuff is called Dermabond, and it is basically an impermeable glue that becomes hard but remains flexible when dry. Sold only to doctors, the glue is commonly used in the emergency room as a fast and painless alternative to stitches for closing small wounds to appropriate parts of the body. About a week after being applied, it simply flakes off the healed wound -- avoiding the need for a return visit to the doctor to have stitches removed.

Week Review

I have been really busy these last couple of weeks. Fall is always a busy time for the Barfield Family. It's my favorite time of the year!! Here I come ....fall festivals!
Trent's fall ball is in full swing. We are chalking this up to a learning year. We are currently looking for a new bat though.Trent dented his in practice with a "Andruw Jones" type hit. I didn't realize that bats were so expensive. I'm talking $70 to well over $100. That's just crazy.
I had the "first grade" conference with his teacher yesterday. He has really matured since last year. No more Jim Carrey. He doesn't try to be Mr. Funny as much as he used to. His grades are really good and so is his conduct. So far he has gotten all 90- 105 on all spelling and vocabulary tests. His words are harder than I remember being in the first grade. On his test today he had the words teacher and friend to know. Those are big words to me. I was thinking 1st grade would be like cat, hat, sat~ you know, stuff like that. He gets so excited when he gets things right. That makes me happy. This weekend we are having a skating party for his birthday. So I will be sure to post pictures next week.
Little Alyssa has been well ....little Alyssa. She continues to surprise me every day with something new. Just riding in the car this week she said, "Momma, I'm happy." That was it. It was so sweet. Everything she does she wants to be like Twent. (that what she calls him) Just like Twent, she says. She has her annual body scan/x-ray this Monday at Scottish Rite. So pray that everything comes out Ok. We will have to make a follow-up appt to get the results though. I hate the thought of trying to convince her to lay still while they take pictures of her hole body. Lord help. She can't even sit still for 5 minutes to eat dinner.
I am currently looking for some activity that she can do. Music class, some sort of dance, anything. if any one has some suggestions that would be great!
Other tidbits.......
Harry Hamlin got robbed this week on Dancing with the Stars. Jerry should have been gone along time of go. Did anyone see the group that sang on Wed. night? What WAS that?????
Did anyone else call Meredith's decision on Grey's Anatomy. I just knew that that would be the outcome. Man~ Who do you choose.....Chris O'Donnell or Patrick Dempsey? McVet vs McDreamy.
I have been falling off of my Sofa during Prison Break. How are they going to get out of next week. I can't wait.
Does anyone out there actually watch that disgusting show... Nip/Tuck. Holy cow. I can't stop watching.

DAD to Little Sister: What happened? You need to clean your room!!
Little Sister to Dad in teenager voice with hand on hip: Whatever!
Dad getting upset talking firmly to Little Sister You better clean your room, and now!!!
Little Sister: I don't have to take this!!!
Dad then leaving the room trying not to let little sister hear him laugh.

In Honor of September 11th.

“MEET ME IN THE STAIRWELL”

You say you will never forget where you were when you
heard the news On September 11, 2001. Neither will I.
I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man
Who called his wife to say “Good-Bye.” I held his fingers
Steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say, “Honey,
I am not going to make it, but it is OK…… I am ready to go.”

I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to
Their children. I held her up as she tried to understand his
Words and as she realized he wasn’t coming home that night.

I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a women cried
out to Me for help. “I have been knocking on the door of
your heart for 50 years!” I said. “Of course I will show you
the way home- only believe in Me now.”

I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering
to the injured and devastated souls. I took him home to
tend to his flock in Heaven. He heard my voice and answered.

I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every
prayer. I was with the crew as they were overtaken. I was in
the very hearts of the Believers there, comforting and assuring
them that their faith has saved them.

I was in Texas, Kansas, London. I was standing next to you
when you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me?

I knew every name---though not all know Me. Some met
Me for the first time on the 86th floor.

Some sought Me with their last breath.

Some couldn’t hear Me calling to them through the some
And flames, “Come to Me…this way….. take my hand.”
Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me. But, I was there.

I did not place you in the Tower that day. You may not know
Why, but I do. However, if you were there in that explosive
moment in time, would you have reached for Me?

September 11, 2001 was not the end of the journey for you.
But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for
you as well. Seek Me now while I may be found.
Then, at any moment, you know you are “ready to go.”

I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.

Change Again!

Well I decided to change my blog again. I couldn't get used to the other one. This one I picked for now is alittle more fall looking, I guess.

Heidi finally returned from maternity leave so my work load will drop alot, which is good because I can start to focus on my administrative duties again.

Fall Ball starts this Tuesday. We have moved up to 7-8 ball. Its literally a whole different ball game with new rules and better players. We will chalk this season up as a learning season.

I am beginning to think that I am raising two little thieves. Mom, Alyssa and I went to the mall on Saturday. We had just left the Disney Store and was trying to decided where to head next when we both looked down to discover that Alyssa had her stroller full of merchandise that we didn't pay for. She had stuffed three items from the Disney store in her lap. So I I had to turn around and return the stolen items. The employees just laughed as Alyssa sat in her stroller with her head down and her lip poked out.
When I got home later that night while cleaning up Alyssa room I noticed that her piggy bank was off of her shelf and was empty. At first I thought, Oh Great! Alyssa's done eaten the coins." I asked her where they money was and she wouldn't say anything. Then I went to Trent's room and noticed his over flowing piggy bank. I confronted him and yes her had emptied her bank into his. He has been known to pick up money from around the house.

Oh Boyeee!!!

Today I got home from work to find my favorite TV Guide in the mail.. It's Fall Preview Time!!!!
I have been waiting three long boring months for this issue. (I know I should have better things to do.)

It's funny the way that TV has evolved. There are hardly any sitcoms anymore, just drama and reality TV.

So let's go down the weekly line up. (Didn't we learn that the days of the week start with Sunday and go through Saturday?) The TV guide started with Monday. They are trying to throw me off.

Sunday- Nothing really has changed for me here except that Grey's Anatomy moved to Thursday. That stinks because I always loved my two hour block from 9-11:00. They are pushing a drama called Brothers & Sisters starting Sally Field and Calista Flockhart. I am not willing to try this. Everytime I look at Ally McBeal I see her and Harrison Ford "together". Grosses me out. So I will look for goodies on Cable to watch. I am getting Desperate though. When we left off Mike was laying in a ditch.

Monday-Holy Cow. Does anyone watch Prison Break? That's one of the only shows that Brett and I watch together. Wentworth is unbelievable. Right ladies!!! (Currently still #2 on my top 5 list) Nothing good on at 9:00 but then at 10:00 there are two things. (I guess I'll watch my Days of Our Lives) Last seasons What About Brian and Studio 60 with Matthew Perry. I want to try that one because I like him, Amanda Peet and Sarah Paulson.
There is a new show called Heroes at 9. I am not sure what to think of this. I don't like those supernatural shows if that's one of them. It's got the guy who shows up on everything. (Greg Grunberg) He started out on Felicity as Shawn, then Alias as Eric, then Lost as the eaten Pilot and even House. He must be friends with the director, JJ Abrams. I might give it a try. PS- I'm still alittle ticked that they decided to drag 7th Heaven through another year and they cancelled Everwood. Shame. Shame.
Tuesday-Looks like its a Dancing With the Stars night. With "whoa" Joey Lawrence and Mario Lopez dancing, who wouldn't watch.
Wednesday- America's Next Top Model is a guilty pleasure. But my night really won't start until 9:00. Lost of course. I love it get Lost on Wednesdays. I turn off the lights and turn up the surround sound. It's like a movie every week. A little Jack and a lot of Sawyer. I'm still trying to dissect what's going on and why do they want the Losties separated? The Hatch, the Others, its all driving me crazy. But how dare they put One Tree Hill on at the same time. I will have to catch that on the rerun. Justice is a new show at 10. It stars Kerr Smith from Dawson's Creek. It actually started last week so I will have to tune in this week for sure. Unlike Law and Order this new show always shows the audience what really appended at the end. So I don't ever have to go to bed wondering.
Thursday- My night will start at 9:00. That's when Grey's Anatomy comes on. That awesome. Two medical shows back to back. Grey's then ER. Patrick Dempsey then Goran Visnjic.
More on this later.....

Black and Blue

Trent's cousin had a birthday party at the local skating rink. Trent had the best time. He hadn't been skating since he was three years old with those fisher price skates that go over the shoes.

Anyway, I couldn't get him to leave. I fell and fell and fell. I was amazed that he kept getting up and trying for 3.5 hours. It was so funny when he finally got the hang of it and tried to dance too.He has soooo proud of himself. He now wants a skating part.

Pigeon Forge

First I'd like to say thanks to our parents for graciously keeping our children so we could have a weekend getaway. We left on Friday and headed to Pigeon Forge. Of course we stopped in Cherokee to have alittle fun. Although Brett would disagree, we only lost $30. But we had fun. Brett had never been in a casino before so he was wide eyed the whole time. On our trip we met up with Bill, Brett's best friend from highschool. We played alot of competitive putt-putt and even caught a dinner show, The Black Bear Jamboree.
On our way back Sunday we did alittle hiking and alot of site seeing. Here are some pictures. (Since we both hate to have our picture taken most of them are scenery pictures.)
