ALL STAR

After heart surgery, getting pelted in the face with a ball, and getting his finger smashed in the car door, Trent was finally able to play in the tournament this weekend. He played awesome. He had some line drive hits to the fence and was once again a defensive machine on third, catching foul balls for outs and gunning them down at third and first. WAY TO GO BIG "T". They placed third and will advance to the STATE level in July.....
I absolutely love this picture.

Another BLOW

Poor, poor Trent. All he wants to do is play in the All-Star Tournament. First the heart now this.....

This is what happens when the sun gets in the way of a short-stop throwing the ball to 3rd. The good news is that according to the CT the eye socket bone is not broken. He is just really, really bruised. He says that it doesn't even hurt. (Just his ego, I Think.) He just doesn't like people staring at him. Hopefully the swelling will go down before Friday. His pediatric nurse happened to be waiting with her husband in the emergency room so he was glad to see her. I didn't think that it was broken but I wanted to be sure. His pelvic area is already black and blue from the heart procedure and it looks really bad too. If I had gotten pulled over last night they would have thrown me in jail for sure.........

Holy Cow. I just checked our wonderful Delta Insurance Site and the cardiologist has submitted his bill. Get ready for this.........

1 charge is for 16,000 and the other is for ........ $49,989.00 That has to be a mistake....... We have to pay 20% of what is allowed.....

Does anyone have any side jobs for Brett? I know he will enjoy me pimping him out to everyone. I can stuff envelopes at home or something.............

An another note.....

Trent has decided to take up another sport. GOLF. That little man has played and played all weekend. He is actually not that bad either.

TRUE STORY: Mother goes to pick up her daughter after work one day. Walking in her preschool room mom notices that her "spirited" daughter was on purple. (Which means just OK) Mom goes to playground to get daughter and asks her what happened, why was she on purple. Her teacher starts to laugh behind her clipboard so the little girl couldn't see her. The teacher explained to the mother that she was good all day until art time. Teacher then informed the mother that her "spirited" daughter and drawn to big circles with two little, tiny circles in each of them. Then shouted, "Look I made Boobies.
Boobies, Boobies, Boobies, I made Boobies. The entire class laughed then they all started singing "Boobies, Boobies, Boobies." All the mom could do was shake her head and think, "Well ~it could have been worse."

I wanted to thank EVERYONE for their personal thoughts and prayers regarding Trent's surgery.

We had to be at Egleston at 6:00am Thursday morning. We were the first ones there at the Heart Center. We patiently waited until they opened the doors. Alyssa had spent the night with Brett's parents so they could take her school then come up afterwards.

They checked Trent in and got all of our information. He weighted 67 lbs and was 53 inches tall. He was excited about that because they means he is closer to being able to ride everything without height restrictions. And he had gained 7 lbs since March.

His nurses and most of the staff were extremely nice. The care team came in and talked to Trent about what he will see and do once they were inside the operating room. Trent didn't seem nervous at all. They told him that they wouldn't do anything to hurt him (needles etc) until he was asleep. He never asked any questions and just seemed to be taking in everything around him. The doctor, anesthesiologist and surgery nurse came in and consulted with us about everything. At 7:30 they took him back. Brett and I did extremely well during his long walk down to the operating room. He took his Indiana Jones figure and BUZZ and walked down the hall without us.

We were told to go and get something to eat the first 45 minutes of his surgery, because that was their prep time. So Mom, Dad, Brett and I went to the cafe. For some odd reason Brett loves Hospital food and was very excited to eat there. I must say it was extremely good and cheap. The four of us ate for $16. During our meal I noticed a familiar face sitting, eating her breakfast all alone. It was someone who I had graduated with, all I could remember was her first name, TRACEY. After thinking about it over the weekend I think her last name was Jones. Anyway~ I went up to her and she did remember me. Something drew me to go over and speak to her. Come to find out her son was diagnosed with a brain tumor, had had brain surgery, was in the ICU but hadn't fully woken up yet. It had been 2 weeks. (So please add her to your prayer list)

The nurses were very good about coming out and giving us an update every hour. Brett's parents, my parents and Brett's aunt and uncle stayed with us during that 5 hour ordeal. We had other visitors too that kept our minds occupied.

At about 12:45 the nurse came out and said that he was back in his room. Brett and I went back to comfort our "Big T". By his facial expressions we knew that he was in alot of pain. They gave him something, then wanted him to eat. I thought everything was going alittle fast but they ordered him his chicken and PAPA sat and fed him. He only ate a couple of bites of chicken, but all of his red grapes. He even wanted more. After his second dose of pain reliever he took a 45 minute nap. When he woke up he was a different person. STARVING. He didn't seem to be in any pain after that. And as of now has never asked for any other pain medicine. NOTHING. I am shocked because I thought he was more like is daddy. haha.

Grandmommy and Granddaddy gave him an Indiana Jones hat after the surgery. He was so cute. All of the nurses came back and took his picture. He thought that he was something else. We eventually got to leave alittle after 4pm. Isn't that amazing!!!! Poor thing. he had gone so well but only miles from the hospital he proceeded to "get sick" in the car. Luckily I had a gift bag in the back that he could use. Bless his heart. All he could say was, "I'm so sorry mama."

So as of right now he is completely back to normal. The doctor said that he should be back to all of his activities by Thursday. (including ball) Poor thing yesterday he had his bat and ball tossing it in his room.

He has a follow up in 4 weeks. But everything seems to be fixed and working properly.

I received this from Trent's School Teacher and wanted to share it.

Heavenly Father ~
We come to You know asking that You will prepare the doctor's hands and mind before he even touches Trent. We ask that You will lay Your healing hands on this precious little boy. Father, we do not know why Trent is having to go through this, but we claim Your word You gave us in Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plan I have for you declares the Lord, not to harm you, but to prosper you." We will hold on to these words and claim them as truth! We know that You will allow this to work for You and Your glory. We ask that You will begin to heal his body before Thursday. Let his recover be quick and easy. Be with Lisa, Father. Give her peace that only You can provide. Let this family feel Your presence in the waiting room and in the operating room with Trent. Love on them let them know how much You love them. We thank You for all that You give us and do for us. We ask that You will let this family rest before, during, and after Trent's surgery with the peace in knowing that You are in control. We love You so much Father. In Your very precious name we pray...
Amen
From My dear Friend Cathy Smith whose (4) year old daughter is currently receiving radiation treatment in Jacksonville....
Dear Heavenly Father, "When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to you, O Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources that He will give the Barfield family mighty inner strength through His Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in their hearts as they trust in Him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high and how deep His love really is. May the Barfield family experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then they will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now glory be to God! By His mighty power at work within us, He is able to accomplish infinitely more than the Barfield family would ever dare to ask or hope. May He be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages." Ephesians 3:14-21 Amen "The Lord nurses them when they are sick and eases their pain and discomfort." Psalm 41:3 "The Lord is watching His children, listening to their prayers" I Peter 3:12 "Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way." I Timothy 3:16

Here Comes The Sun

Alyssa did awesome at her recital. After fighting with her for a good 30 minutes she was ready to go. I am so proud of her. To see her up on that stage dancing was a miracle. I had tears almost the entire time. She looked to pretty and was really good at it. She did surprising well considering she didn't pay attention in class because, "she was in charge." Take a look at these pictures. They are priceless.

Trent's surgery is scheduled for Thursday, June 12th, which is next Thursday. I wasn't expecting it to be so soon. I don't really know if Trent comprehends what will happen. I don't think Brett and I even know. At least we won't have that long to worry about it.
An amazing thing happened Wednesday. As some of you know..... Trent was picked to be apart of the 8u Ola ALLSTAR team. Of course with his surgery he probably won't be able to play. I called the coach and told him about Trent and that we were excited and honored that Trent was chosen but he probably couldn't be apart of the tournament in late June. He told me to come to the meeting anyway and that Trent had earned his spot on the team and he deserved to be acknowledged. I went. And what happened at the meeting I didn't expect.
After the initial meeting was over the Coach asked if it was Ok to share about Trent. He did and then said that eventhough Trent was having surgery and probably couldn't play he is still An ALLSTAR and named him the TEAM CAPTAIN. I was practically in tears. That was so nice of the Allstar coach.
On another note......
Trent has been at Alyssa's school this week. He doesn't really want to go, but what can I do... Yesterday the director called and said that Trent was complaining of a stomach ache and that he said "It must be my heart." I spoke with him on the phone and asked him if he was alright to stay or did he need to go. He said that he didn't want to leave because they were going swimming. I just figured that he didn't want to be there. Later on that night I asked him if his stomach was better.... then he asked me..."Mom, what if I wake up during the surgery, or what if I don't wake up at all.?" At that moment I realized that it is his nerves that are making his stomach hurt. My poor baby.

Summer is finally here. It was nice this morning to be able to drop both kids off at the same place and get to work early. Trent is at Alyssa's school for most of the summer which she thinks is neat.

Still no exact date for Trent's surgery. Hopefully we will hear something later today or tomorrow. I wish they would hurry so we can plan some stuff for the summer.

I can't remember if I blogged about this or not... But Trent was asked to be apart of the Ola Allstar Baseball team. He is excited. The 1st tournament is the last weekend in June. He would be able to play those games, but if they advance to the next level he wouldn't be able to play because of his surgery. So I guess it will be up to the coach. I wouldn't want Trent to take a spot knowing that he wouldn't play into the next round. But I hate that he will miss this opportunity too.

Alyssa has her ballet recital this weekend. I am alittle nervous. I just hope she attempts to do her dance. She has been so good at school for the past few months except on Wednesdays. She has ballet on Wednesdays and her card gets pulled during class. They said that she wants to do "her own thing" and not the routine. Last Wednesday I said, "Alyssa be good today for the ballet teacher. It is your last class." She replied, "I'm in front." Oh that's great, I thought. Then she said, "I'm in front because I'm in charge." "No honey, your not in charge. That is why you get your card pulled. You have to listen to the teacher and do what all of the other kids do." Oh! I can't wait until Saturday.
